Dear Mrs. Brink, Mrs. Tomlin, and Class:
I think most of you know that the French are famous for cooking. Well, let me tell you the real story.
The food at my school is terrible!
Yes I mean TERRIBLE!!!! But I'll let you be the judge.
(Here is the monthly menu for September. Luckily most of you can't read French to really understand how bad it is)
I think even the cooks know it is horrible. Funny thing though is that some of the kids at school actually like it. How could they like an appetizer of beets and nuts or liver pate` with pickles? Or how about taboule`. I don't even know if I spelled it right. Even when they had pasta they filled it with all sorts of stinky mushrooms. That's fungus I think. Unbelievably some of the kids at my table like it. So I give them some of my food so it looks like I ate it. And believe it or not I'm saving the worst for last.

Let me give you a few examples. Every Friday they have fish. Last Friday they had some really smelly stuff and then some slimy dessert called flan. On Thursday we were actually pretty excited because it was a surprise menu. They called it Bio which means organic in English. I thought it might be chicken with some tasty fruit for dessert. No way. For an appetizer we had carrots and chopped mushrooms in some mystery sauce. And that was the good part. For the main course we had a spinach soup with onions and more mushrooms. (Maybe they were on sale?) And the worst part was that the Director of the school came into the cantine (lunch room) and made us eat it. I almost puked. Luckily the next day we had ground beef or I would have starved. I wish they would let us take our lunch to school like in Florida.
I would love you all to come visit me in France. I know you would love it. But trust me I don't think you'll like the food. I promise though, that I will not force you to eat it like they do to me.

Oh Maddy, your last post just cracked me up! I'm sorry that the food at school is not the best, but I happen to know that your parents are fabulous chefs so hopefully you'll survive!
You have left me laughing hysterically with this post. I am not fond of any of the foods you mentioned, especially beets or slimy fish, so maybe I should come over as a type of diet! Funny that they actually MAKE you eat it (OK, not funny for you, sorry.) Glad to hear you're working on the graph!

I agree, the mushrooms must be on sale this week! I do like that they are giving you fresh veggies, but I must agree with the fish and mystery meat! A little questionable!!! Do they let you go home for lunch? I thought that you used to when you were in 2nd grade, but I may be wrong. Can you bring a lunch??? That might be how you can avoid your questionable meals!!!
I know that in 5th grade, you will study the American Revolution. I know that the French Revolution took place during the same period of time. I was wondering if there were any landmarks or interesting events that took place in or around your village. This summer I read about an English Dutchess that was very good friends with Marie Antoinette. I am now very interested in reading more about this time period and the Queen! Do they study this time in your French school?

So anyways how has it been ever seens you left Florida, have you made any new friends? I was reading your blogs(very funny) and I was suprised. Hi This is Maggie. How is it going in france? It's great here in Florida. But I miss you. In Florida it is sunny and hot! What is the weather in France? At school we had a little fun with social studies. We got to read a newspaper about Fighting for Freedom. I was about the disagreement against the colonies and the patriots. We got to read with partners. Do you get a lot of homework? I wouldn't want to eat the yucky food either! I liked the passage you wrote about making wine. I can't believe how many bottles you make each year! Its so cool how many grapes you have in your backyard too. What is your favorite thing about France so far? My mom wishes that she could go to France and stay in a villa just like you do. I can't wait to see you soon!

did you see the Eiffel Tower yet? If so take some pictures! And i saw the food you have to eat do they really make you eat it? If they do... I wish you luck! Is it hard speaking french because if I'm going to france i think I'm going to need to practice my french all i know is bonjour I'm not even sure if that is french .
